Westminster Electric Motor

#Physics Demonstrating the Westminster Electric Motor. The students wind the coil and create a set of brushes and get the motor to work. Using Flemings left hand rule to work out the direction of rotation. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Simple Electric Motor

#Physics #GCSE Looking at Flemings Motor Rule and how electric motors work starting with this very simple design. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM This design is nothing more than a coil of wire resting on two pieces of wire and a strong magnet. According to Flemings Left Hand Rule when a wire carrying an electric current comes into a magnetic field then movement happens.

Lung Repair

Doing some artificial lung surgery of my lung model. After a few years the rubber has perished and needs replacing, so new rubber bands and balloons required. #Science #STEM @chatbiology #iteachbiology

g by freefall

#Physics The @LEGO_Group technics is out measuring a ball bearing falling 50cm. It comes up with a very accurate and reproducible value of g. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Diving Analysis

#Physics Using @pascoscientific Capstone to look at one of my students on a spring board and diving. Using Capstone we can analyse her movement, PE and KE. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Going green Podcast #23 | What is meant by Carbon Neutral?

What is meant by Carbon Neutral and how can we get there is a common question. Philip and Paul discuss how they can get to carbon neutral or better. My company buys in Power. Much of this is made via solar panels, but at night we need to get the power from the grid, which is up to 50% renewably generated. Our hot water is supplied during the summer by solar thermal, but in the winter not enough heat is generated so we need to buy in green house unfriendly methane gas. We need water and this also has a greenhouse content to it. Our vehicles are not electric but we don't use them much for the company only going out a short distance every few weeks. To offset these emissions we need to buy some carbon credit in some form by planting some new tree of finding some other form of carbon sequestration. #climateemergency #cop26glasgow #climatecrisis #environment #globalwarming #climatechangeisreal #carbonneutrality

Immutable theory of light

Looking at light passing through one prism then taking just one of those colours and trying to split that light again in another prism. It doesn't get split any more. Red light stays as red light.

Fun with Electrostatics

I'm having some fun with the students investigating Electrostatics. We are deflecting water, moving suspended rods, charging hair, fix...
