Burning a crisp
Burning a crisp to work out its energy #STEM @ChatBiology We got 200kJ for 100g for crisps instead of the packet saying 2000kJ Gave the students a headache working out why, when they did the experiment so carefully using @pascoscientific capstone. #iteachbiology #Science

Capstone Day 5
Playing with Blockly in @pascoscientific capstone. Trying to try out the experiments in the online course. The next course is on Sparkvue on 30th Aug. Sparkvue is free on Phones with makes it ideal for students. #Physics #iteachphysics #STEM #Science

Pasco Capstone Course Day 1
Recreating the exercises from
capstone course yesterday. Amazing how many little bits I leant. Looking forward to the next session. All about #Physics #iteachphysics #STEMMonday 16 August 2021
Optics
A level #Physics Needing to do a little revision of #GCSE #science before going onto more advanced stuff. The candle seems to be so more effective than other light sources for understanding. #iteachphysics #STEM

Plastic Strip Tester
#GCSE #Physics Using a plastic strip Tester on different plastic and paper bags experiment to find the breaking points of the different bags by different manufacturers. Students are surprised at the results. #STEM #iteatchphysics #Science

Resolution of Forces
A Level #Physics Resolution of Forces using a magnetic whiteboard a few magnets and some string. Easy to move around - change the length and to set and resolve new problems. #iteachphysics #STEM #science

Ball drop
#Physics Playing with the strobe and a @pascoscientific metal metre rule to work out the acceleration due to gravity. The Strobe was at 15Hz and by looking at the ruler we can work out the acceleration. #iteachphysics #science #STEM

Two Nodding birds
Two Nodding birds. Identical Mass , Liquid etc. But they have very different periods. Why? Something to get my A level #Physics Students thinking about (they can play with them as well) #iteachphysics #science #stem A bit of fun to get them interested.

3-D printing
Holidays are about catching up on 3-D printing #Physics equipment for the @pascoscientific sensors to do more/better/clearer experiments and designing some new bits of my own. #iteachphysics #science #stem

making alloys
#GCSE chemistry. When we talked about making alloys the students didn't expect the petri dish, washing up liquid and straws to come out. Making bubble structures of Alloys. #science #stem

Law of Odds
GCSE #Physics Trying out measuring acceleration using bells and a cart travelling down a @pasco.scientific track using our 3D printed bells and a sound sensor since a water clock didn't work well because my reaction times were too slow. The sparkvue software which is free on Android and IOS gave some very good results. #iteachphysics #science #stem

garlic and mint as anti-microbial agents
Some success with our A level #microbiology #biology practical looking at garlic and mint as anti-microbial agents. 1 out of 8 worked - Under identical conditions the bugs do as they please. #science #STEM One of the discs Garlic managed a 1.5cm ring of lysed bacteria.

Aseptic Technique
Teaching A level #microbiology My student had to made up the Nutrient broth and make all the Agar plates before she could start the experiment. Much of this is learning aseptic technique. Hopefully all her plates will be clean to start the expt tomorrow. #teaching
