Decarbonising the world

Decarbonising the world isn't about getting rid of the carbon - that’s impossible, but it all about managing the resource. Carbon Taxes can be applied to industries to push them in the right direction allowing the more efficient companies to trades carbon credits with other companies by setting caps and allowing trade. Carbon Coins are used to reward companies for not emitting carbon. The systems all come down to money. Either raising money in the form of taxes for those companies who must make carbon  dioxide as part of their business like the cement industry and paying  other companies who might be investing in wind and solar power. Generating this revenue means that the money can be spent on research and infrastructure and justice. Changing what we do needs to be done, and it needs to be done quickly.

Mechanical disadvantage

#ALevel #Physics looking at Mechanical disadvantage in a knee/elbow joint, from a Lamb Joint to @pascoscientific tension protractor to measure the forces at different lengths from the pivot. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM This lesson works well in Biology as well so the studemts doing both subjects benefitted.

phone quadrat

Working on the latest version of the phone quadrat. The phone placed on top of the quadrat takes photos, so it is so much easier to analyse the transects in the classroom #Biology #STEM #iteachbiology @chatbiology

Emission Spectra

Using a paper spectrometer and a @pascoscientific  spectrometer to look at the emission spectra of neon and Helium and other gases. #Physics #iteachphysics #STEM #Science

Burning a crisp

Burning a crisp to work out its energy #STEM @ChatBiology We got 200kJ for 100g for crisps instead of the packet saying 2000kJ Gave the students a headache working out why, when they did the experiment so carefully using @pascoscientific capstone. #iteachbiology #Science

Uranium

#Alevel #Physics Using a @pascoscientific GM counter to look at the radiation count of a flake of Uranium Paint. About as dangerous as I like to go. #iteachphysics #STEM #Science

Chemistry visualising problems

Stereochemistry is very difficult to visualise, even sometimes when playing with models.  Even looking at this, some students couldn't...
