Online Teaching Success


 Online lessons work well for some subjects like maths - but how about science? After 7 years of online teaching, we know online teaching works well with science, but it also depends upon the students' setup, and if they can manage some half-decent, online works really well.

Ore Extraction

Ore extraction is done by adding some crushed calcium carbonate to a wooden spill and dipping it in copper or iron oxide. Heat fiercely, and with some practice, tiny balls of metal are formed.

Heating and Cooling

Doing some revision of Heating and Cooling. Set up two @pascoscientific wireless thermometers connected to Capstone, and whilst the student revised the software, did the rest, producing a graph of the results.

Learning all about sound. Using the Oscilloscope to see the sound made by different instruments and things. Looking at the difference between repeating sounds and once-only events.

small quadrat


 This is the time of year when many teachers reach the end of the course and find they need to use the quadrants. Few plants are around, and the weather is poor. I use photographs from the camera quadrant and get the students to analyse these.
I have a series of transects looking at different environments and various random samples from different types of fields and meadows. The students can go outside and try the techniques but they can all analyse the same data.
