DVD in a Mirror lies

In my last post I looked at a DVD reflecting the light. But what happens if you put a mirror next to the DVD. The colours are changed. No surely a mirror reflects what you see so whay are their different colours in the mirror. I know you think this is a fake so try it yourself and see that this really happens.

DVD Diffraction

Simple ways of looking at the diffraction of light using an old DVD, doesn't cost anything and gives students a problem trying to explain why it works as it does. #Physics #iteachphysics #STEM #Science

Decarbonising the world

Decarbonising the world isn't about getting rid of the carbon - that’s impossible, but it all about managing the resource. Carbon Taxes can be applied to industries to push them in the right direction allowing the more efficient companies to trades carbon credits with other companies by setting caps and allowing trade. Carbon Coins are used to reward companies for not emitting carbon. The systems all come down to money. Either raising money in the form of taxes for those companies who must make carbon  dioxide as part of their business like the cement industry and paying  other companies who might be investing in wind and solar power. Generating this revenue means that the money can be spent on research and infrastructure and justice. Changing what we do needs to be done, and it needs to be done quickly.

Mechanical disadvantage

#ALevel #Physics looking at Mechanical disadvantage in a knee/elbow joint, from a Lamb Joint to @pascoscientific tension protractor to measure the forces at different lengths from the pivot. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM This lesson works well in Biology as well so the studemts doing both subjects benefitted.
