New Light Source

My new @pascoscientific light box from @SciChemEdu arrived and now I can try to get the human eye model to work using this arrow arrangement on the light. Seems to be a good light source with different slits to try out. #iteachphysics

Ripple Tank Waves

Ripple Tank Waves. Looking at interference patterns with A level #Physics with two dibbers. Working out the wavelength and calculating the frequency and velocity of the waves Missing some of the GCSE syllabus the students are having to do some new learning over the summer to make up what they missed so they can start A level successfully #iteachphysics

Simple Harmonic Motion

A @pascoscientific force sensor and an Ultrasonic sensor working together on a long spring to show forces and distance, velocity and accelerator in simple harmonic motion for A level physics students - all online. #iteachphysics #Physics

US birds have been getting smaller, with longer wings

US birds have been getting smaller, with longer wings giving rise to the idea of earlier and longer bird migrations, studies have shown over the past 40 years. myrenewableenergy.org/News.html #ClimateEmergency #ClimateCrisis #climatechange

Summer Solstice

#SummerSolstice Explaining the angle of the Earth and the journey around the sun to create the solstice Longest/shortest day using a ball and a torch. Holding the @esri "Earth" the students got the idea of what is going on.

Going Green Podcast #5 Lithium Power

Lithium is our way out for power. Lithium Batteries are made from Lithium Carbonate and there are huge deposits in Cornwall and Scotland. The Cornish reserves give us 260mg per litre flowing at a rate of 40-60 litres per second. But we know that mining is environmentally costly. The World's highest grade Lithium in Geothermal waters gives us a low environmental footprint that's enough for a phone battery every few seconds

The Demand is soaring for batteries for renewables. At the moment most of the Lithium comes from Australia, Chile and Argentina but is expensive and unfriendly to extract and uses loads of water, Cornwall may save the World. To give some idea of the amounts needed for cars the Tesla uses 12kg of Lithium per car and we know that the demand is increasing exponentially.
