Crude oil and fractional distillation

Teaching looking at crude oil and fractional distillation. I wonder whether this experiment will soon become a thing of the past and be the sort of thing you tell your grandchildren you did. #environment

Looking at Electrolysis.

Looking at Electrolysis. Setting this up is always fun and the students are amazed that when turning the small test tube upside down the water doesn't come out and they have to explain that as well. The best science is not just the stuff they have to do. #iteachphysics #Science

Making a Battery

Whilst teaching electrolysis I found out the students knew nothing about what a battery was so we needed to make one. Using Copper and Zinc electrodes connected to a simple LCD clock to shown that it worked. The students found out it was nothing to do with the potato but the choice of metals and some metals made better batteries ( higher voltages) than others. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Changes in pressure

Looking at the changes in pressure when a conical flask of fizzy water is left to stand using a @pascoscientific pressure sensor to record the results. Would it say the same, rise or possibly fall? Year 12 trying to find out. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Pasco Weather Sensor

#Physics Taking wind speed readings using the PASCO scientific wireless weather station. Grabbing some monthly data on the weather in the UK. Relating to streamlining and speeds of cars and lorries. Looking at some wind modelling around built up areas and exposed areas. Surprising that even in low winds in some built up areas because of the layout of the buildings there can be distorted wind effects #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Rutherford Scattering online

Teaching about Rutherford Scattering online #Physics Needed a Jib as well for this to show the alpha particles being deflected by the Gold Nuclei. #iteachphysics #Science #STEM

Doing Titrations the easy way

#Chemistry Doing Titrations the easy way showing the temp and PH curves using @pascoscientific drop counter and Capstone. Students can see the reaction going on rather than finding an arbitrary end point. Good discussion. #Science #STEM
