Pinhole Camera

The bright sunshine is an excellent opportunity to try out the pinhole camera. Many students are amazed to see images with such a simple device. Many thought photographs could only be taken an a several hundred pound smart phone. #iteachphysics

Parallel Springs

All the students know about Hookes Law and weights on a spring, but much weirder things happen when there are springs in parallel. It is down to the A level students to work this out.

Isn't it easy to show velocity Force and Acceleration using a @pascoscientific smartcart, from @SciChemEdu and a vector display. I didn't need all the kit out and after a few minutes the students remembered the experiments to tell me about them. #iteachphysics

Friday 26 March 2021

Starting to print on the 3D printer some @pascoscientific diy metre stick torque set. I have ordered a Pasco one through @SciChemEdu with an Aluminium metre rule but I thought I would try out the wooden ruler version.

This is ideal for working out moments and is extremely accurate and very sensitive. Instead of the fulcrum that was designed I am using a modified file so that we can use the rotary motion sensor.

Using @pascoscientific dynamics trolley and an ultrasonic sensor supplied by @SciChemEdu to carry of some Physics Revision. Using these today just as models to remind the students of the experiments they have done.#iteachphysics

3D addons to science equipment

Just printed some 3D printed addons for the

smartcart from . The reflective block is a bit too loose so we are working on a wider one to publish with a screw fixing.

The rotating block for the smart cart fan looks to be a useful addon.

Back to Practicals

So glad to be back teaching the students face to face and getting back to letting them do the practical work. Starting today with titrations.

A level Math
